Skate Guards are the best protection for your blades whenever you are walking off ice.  Keep your edges and toe picks sharper longer.
 
After skating, always dry your blades off and protect them with an absorbant blade soaker.  This will help prevent corrosion and keep other items in your bag from cutting and scratching.
